OSHA 501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry

This trainer course is designed for personnel interested in teaching the OSHA 10 or 30-Hour General Industry Outreach courses. Special emphasis is placed on required topics in the OSHA Outreach Program. Various instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts will also be covered. Course participants will work in groups or independently to practice their presentation of selected topics. (Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop to work on presentation materials.) A written examination is given at the conclusion of the course. Successful completion of the course and the final examination allows the participant to be recognized as an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for General Industry. This course is provided in partnership with Mid-South OTI Education Center. Minimum Contact Hours: 26
General industry outreach trainers must take OSHA 503 every four years to maintain their status as an outreach trainer.
Learn to:
•Locate OSHA safety and health standards, policies, and procedures
•Describe the use of OSHA standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program
•Identify common violations of OSHA standards, such as lockout/tagout, walking and working surfaces, hazardous materials, and welding
•Conduct internal training on OSHA regulations and recordkeeping
OSHA #511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry course completed within the last seven years and five years of general industry safety experience. A bachelor or higher college degree in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene by an accredited college or university, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation in the applicable training area may be substituted for two years of experience.  Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #503 Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.  These prerequisites will be verified when you pre-register for the course. You must complete the Prerequisite Verification Form prior to registering for this course.
•29 CFR 1910 General Industry Safety Standard provided by the Mid-South OTI Education Center.
•Due to course content we highly recommend bringing a laptop.
